How can the season of celebrations be complete without shopping? And if it’s designer apparels and jewellery on offer, there’s all the more reason to drop in at Fusion Fair.

The two-day exhibition-cum-sale at Hotel Capitol Hill, where women entrepreneurs from across the country are showcasing their designer apparels, jewellery and home décor, kicked off on Thursday.

“We welcome designers, manufacturers and boutique owners from Ranchi, Calcutta, Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur. We hope this fair draws better response than the last exhibition held in July 2011,” said Priya Budhia, one of the organisers of the event. Budhia and her business partner Shilpa Jain have been organising Fusion Fair twice every year for the past four years.

A winter collection of kurtis, tunics, sarees, bridal jewellery, cushion covers and other home furnishing and décor items are up for grabs at the exhibition-cum-sale, which opens at 10.30 in the morning and continues 7pm.

Kanika Bhalotia, a designer from Calcutta who took part in the fair last year, beamed with satisfaction. “The response has been good even though we just opened our kiosk.”

The prices are as attractive as the items themselves. Tunics and kurtis start at Rs 500 and can go up to Rs 4,000. However, sarees bagged the top slot in terms of sales as well as prices. The range varied from Rs 3,000 to Rs 35,000 and even Rs 50,000 at a few shops. Dining mats, cushion covers and bedsheets, available for Rs 200-Rs 2,000, also sold like hot cakes.

In home décor and furnishing section, Sanwaria’s and Frill, both from Calcutta, are some famous names. Sparkles Studio from Jaipur, Mehra Jewellers from Delhi, Indusha Jewellery Couture and Jewelz by Manju Agarwalla from Calcutta and Sunflower from Mumbai have lined up real kundan and patra work, silver and gold jewellery studded with precious and semi-precious stones of Indian, Turkish and Maharaja designs.
