Everyone dreams of weddings to remember. Not all can afford them.

Samadhaan, a Jamshedpur-based NGO, will sponsor the weddings of 15 couples from economically backward families on December 6.

The social outfit will organise the community wedding for the second consecutive year at Sidhgora Town Hall grounds.

Chief minister Raghubar Das, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto and other dignitaries will be present on the occasion.

"Marriage is one of the most auspicious ceremonies in our culture. We have come across boys and girls who secretly dream of a grand wedding ceremony but cannot afford it. So we decided to reach out to these young couples," said Dinesh Kumar, chief patron of Samadhaan.

Last month, Samadhaan had floated pamphlets to announce the mass marriage. From the 22 applications it got, it short-listed 15 after scrutinising the financial status of applicants.

"I came to know about the community marriage from a pamphlet distributed in my village. Both I and my fiancée Puja Kumari dreamt of nice wedding which we couldn't afford. We sent in applications and got selected. Our parents are equally excited," said Kailash Kumar, a farmer from Tamar in Ranchi.

From organising the baraat to haldi and mehndi ceremonies for the bride, the NGO is leaving no stone unturned to make the day memorable.

Besides bearing the entire cost of marriages, Samadhaan is also providing the couples essential items and appliances to run a household.

"We have kept a budget of Rs 1 lakh for each couple. These people belong to poverty-stricken families so we are providing them with all basic items needed to run a house," said Poonam Vig, the president of Samadhaan

Each couple will get a cot, bed, almirah, suitcase, set of 111 utensils, watches, silver jewellery and five saris.
