DAV sports meet

The All India DAV National Sports Meet-2015 will kick off on Sunday in Ranchi, which is hosting the prestigious event for the fourth time in a row.

The All India DAV National Sports Meet-2015 will kick off on Sunday in Ranchi, which is hosting the prestigious event for the fourth time in a row.

DAV Public Schools in Hehal, Bariatu and Gandhinagar - all in Ranchi - are organising the three-day event that will see around 2,000 boys from across the country fight it out for glory in altogether 21 sport disciplines.

"Every year, the number of participants is increasing in this boys-only tournament. This year too, DAV students from various states like Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, among others, will take part," DAV-Hehal principal Dr T.P. Pati said, announcing the fixture at a news meet at Hehal on Thursday.

Elaborating on the event, Pati, also the regional director of the Ranchi zone, said competition would be held in athletics, yoga, gymnastic, lawn tennis, badminton, table tennis, roller skating, swimming, hockey, volleyball, cricket, basketball, football, handball, archery, riffle and pistol shooting, boxing, judo, kho-kho, kabaddi and chess.

While the inaugural and the concluding events will be held at Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morabadi, the competitions will be held at various venues across the city.

For instance, DAV-Bariatu will organise boxing at Vikas Vidyalaya and gymnastic at BIT-Mesra grounds. DAV-Hehal will hold cricket at Ranchi College ground, and basketball, kho-kho and kabaddi at its own ground. DAV-Gandhinagar, on the other hand, will organise football and archery at Birsa Munda Football stadium.

Similarly, the other events will be held at venues like Taurian World School, Sapphire International School and Astroturf Hockey Stadium, among others.

Dr S.K. Sama, vice-president of DAV college management committee, New Delhi, will be the chief guest on the inaugural day while Shri Satpal, the president of School Games Federation of India, will grace the closing ceremony.
