Jamshedpur, June 17: Three persons died on the spot and over 60 others sustained serious injuries when a city-bound bus turned turtle near Kati village in Seraikella-Kharsawan district early this morning.
An eyewitness said the bus, coming from Dalbaga, overturned and fell into a ditch when the driver lost control while trying to save a pedestrian who had suddenly come in front of the vehicle.
One of the injured has been rushed at the Tata Main Hospital while two others, have been admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Hospital with multiple rib injuries. The remaining injured passengers are undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Seraikella.
The three victims have been identified as Luta Kalindi, Baikunth Kalindi and Brajmohan Soy. Luta and Baikunth, residents of Simla village near Raj Kharsawan, were brothers. All the three were sitting on the top of the bus.
The administration has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the relatives of the victims. The deputy commissioner of Seraikella-Kharsawan, Agapit Soren, said an interim relief of Rs 10,000 has been given to the families of those killed.
The administration has given Rs 3,500 as immediate relief to the victim who was rushed to the TMH in a critical condition.
