Jamshedpur, Sept. 28: Director-general of police Shivaji Mahan Cairae today said rebels willing to surrender would be given every opportunity to come back to the mainstream.
He made the announcement before mediapersons at a local circuit house after attending a meeting with policemen.
Officials who attended the meeting included superi-ntendent of police (Chaibasa) Navin Kumar Singh, superi-ntendent of police (Seraikela-Kharsawan) and the deputy general of police, (Kolhan range) Ram Chandra Ram.
While speaking to the media, Cairae said the rebels, willing to surrender before the police, would be given monetary assistance so that they can lead a normal life.
?They are also human beings. I will fully support those who wish to give up violence and return to the mainstream,? said the director-general.
Elaborating on the rehabilitation package for surrendered rebels, Caire said those who surrender with firearms would be provided an Indira Awas house free of cost and would also be given monetary assistance to set up a business of their own.
However, those who surrender without any arms would be given only accommodation.
?We will try to help those who surrender with firearms. We will provide them a flat apart from money. Most importantly, the administration would not register any case against such people,? said the director-general of police.
However, the administration can recommend some relief for those rebels who already have cases against them if they are willing to join hands with the administration.
?The administration has its limitations and it cannot intervene in the court of justice. If any rebel is facing trial in the court, he would have to wait until the trial is over,? he said.
