Bokaro district transport officer (DTO) Jaidip Tigga issued a fresh notice to 31 private cradles on Monday evening, reminding them to furnish detailed information about buses that they use to ferry children to and from schools.

The schools have time till Wednesday to provide the details sought under Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Jharkhand Motor Vehicle Rules and Regulations, failing which action will be taken against them.

A similar notice was issued on April 8, but as most schools chose to sit on the order, the DTO was compelled to send a fresh reminder.

"According to Supreme Court guidelines, all school buses should have first-aid boxes, safety grilles, fire extinguishers, emergency telephone numbers, enough space for school bags and attendants. The buses should be painted yellow with the words "School Bus" written on the rear and front. The total number of children seated inside must be also mentioned. And only drivers with at least five years' experience should be allowed to steer the vehicles," Tigga told The Telegraph.

He added that the order issued by him seeks to verify whether the schools were following all rules or not.

"I will start a drive after April 15 (Wednesday), which is the last date of getting all information, and make all private schools toe the line," Tigga promised.

Some of the schools that received the notice include DPS-Bokaro, Chinmaya School, St Xavier's, Holy Cross, Pentecostal Assembly School, Guru Govind Singh Public School, Shree Ayappa Public School, MGM School, DAV School, Kendriya Vidyalaya-Sector IV and Bokaro Public School, Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir,  Sardar Patel School, Crescent Public school, Kairali Springdale Public school, ARS Public school, YMCA International Public school, St Paul Pubic school (All Bokaro steel city),  DAV School Bermo, DAV Swang, Gomia, DAV Kathara, DAV Dhori, DAV Lalpania, DAV Chadrapura , DAV Bhandaridah, Carmel school Bokaro thermal, Pitts Modern Public school Gomia, DAV school Tenughat, Kendriya Vidyalaya Chandrapura, Kendriya Vidyalya Bokaro thermal and Rukmini Devi Vidyalya Public school Bermo<>.

The DTO said they would start a drive to seize overloaded tempos ferrying students.
