Ranchi, June 21: Ramadhar Singh, the land broker who was shot dead near Minakshi Cinema last night, reportedly revealed the names of his assailants to his driver even as he breathed his last.

On the basis of his last words, Akhilesh Kumar Sinha, the driver, lodged an FIR at the Sukhdeonagar police station against Ashok Vishwakarma and Ram Yadav, land brokers, and Kamal Bhushan, a land broker and a lawyer.

But the police are apparently sitting tight on the FIR and have not made any arrests so far. According to them, the three men, who have been named by Singh as conspirators in his murder, are moving well within the confines of the city and there is no need to arrest them now.

?No, we have not arrested them till now. But we are interrogating them and an FIR has been lodged against them. But there is no need to arrest them now. They are residents of Ranchi, so where will they run? We have not been able to make any breakthroughs in the case as of now. But one thing?s for certain. A land disput triggered the murder,? said Randhir Kumar, the officer in-charge of Sukhdeonagar police station.

Chandan, the eldest son of the deceased, also echoed his father?s suspicions as he told The Telegraph that Kamal, along with a journalist of a vernacular daily, had fired shots at their house three months ago. A day before the murder, he further said, Kamal and Ramadhar, neighbours at Madhukam, had a spat over the construction of a boundary wall separating their homes.

?My father had complained that Kamal had threatened him with dire consequences. He has a strong clout with a senior journalist of a Hindi newspaper and both of them had fired at our home some months ago,? Chandan added.

Last night, Singh had stopped his car near Minakshi Cinema around 10.45 pm and had sent his driver to buy bottles of beer. While he waited in his car for the driver to return, two men stopped a bike near the car and shot him point blank around his left shoulder.

Soon the police rushed to the spot and arrested the driver. It was during the questioning that the driver informed the police of the dying declaration of his employer and lodged an FIR against them.

The police claimed that investigations are on. ?We are tracing the developments at present. We are keeping an eye on the three men and there is no way that they will flee,? an officer said. But Chandan is not convinced. ?The three men might run away any moment. The cops will then declare them traceless and close the case,? he said.
