Brahmo conference after 27 yrs

Hazaribagh, Oct. 29: After a gap of 27 years, Hazaribagh has got the opportunity to host a discourse on the teachings of Raja Rammohan Roy.

Brahmo Samaj, Hazaribagh chapter, is all set to organise the 119th All India Brahmo Conference from October 31.

As many as five seminars will be held on the occasion at Keshav Hall and Brahmo Samaj building situated at Main Road. Barhi legislator Manoj Yadav will inaugurate the opening ceremony at Keshav Hall.

Organising secretary Nilanjan Chatterjee said that preparations were on in full swing. According to him, the Hazaribagh chapter of Brahmo Samaj is organising the conference for the fourth time.

“Such an event was first held here in 1957. Thereafter, it was held in 1970, which saw participation of Rabindranath Tagore’s nephew Somendranath Tagore. The last time, we were privile- ged to organise the conference was in 1982,” the organising secretary added.

“The event will kick off with a discussion on the topic ‘Challenges in Contemporary India and Brahmo Samaj’”.

Topics of the other seminars are “Contributions of Hazaribagh Brahmo Samaj,” “Women Emancipation: The Brahmo Way,” “Our Youth as Architects of Modern India,” and “Brahmo Samaj: An Introspection”, Chatterjee said.

Prominent scholars such as historians Sumanto Niyogi, Gautam Niyogi and Barid Baran Ghosh and freedom fighter Gaurango Dasgupta will speak on the occasion.
