BIT Mesra wins again

Ranchi, Jan. 16: Birla Insitute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, is on a winning streak.

The host team and last year?s runners-up, BIT, Mesra, won both of its matches on the second day of the 14 th Chetan Devraj Memorial Inter-technical Cricket Tournament today.

BIT, Mesra, defeated BIT, Sindri, by 14 runs in the first match. They defeated BESU, Shivpur, in the second match.

But the match against Shivpur belonged to Gaurav Gautam, whose brilliant 101 not out in the match took the game out of Shivpur?s hands.

Mesra won the toss in the first match and elected to bat, scoring 165 for seven wickets in 20 overs.

Jaideep, their captain, narrowly missed out on half a century, scoring 47 not out, while Ankit scored 30 runs.

Replying to the score, the Sindri team was bowled out for a only 151 runs for the loss of nine of their wickets in 20 overs.

The Mesra team displayed a disciplined bowling attack with Ujwal claiming four wickets.

In the second match between BIT, Mesra, and Shivpur, Mesra again won the toss, scoring a total of 165 runs for the loss of five. Gaurav Gautam smashed the ball to all corners of the grounds in his brilliant unbeaten 101 not out.

Kunal and Abhidip of Shivpur claimed two wickets each. The Shivpur team could only manage 142 in their allotted 20 overs.

In the other matches played here today, the Allahabad Agriculture Instiute won by defeating NIT, Durgapur by eight wickets.

Although the Durgapur won the toss and posted a total of 124 runs for the loss of six wickets, the Allahabad batsman made mincemeat of Shivpur attacked by reaching the target in just 17.5 overs after losing only two wickets.

Ashok made a brilliant half-century of 57 runs in thematch.

In the final match, last year's champion ISM, Dhanbad, defeated BIT, extension Lalpur.

The Lalpur team won the toss and after electing to batfirst posted a total of 108 runs after loosing all their wickets. While Sanjeev scored 33 runs, Chandan pitched in his contribution by scoring 32 runs.

Prabhat displayed brilliant bowling skills for the Dhanbad team by claiming five wickets.
