Ranchi: Uncertainty looms over the proposed Harmu flyover with Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (Juidco) formally announcing the cancellation of tenders on Friday after failing to find any bidder for it.

The development comes at a time the Kantatoli flyover project is yet to get off the ground with local residents and raiyats launching protests demanding appropriate compensation.

On Friday, Juidco, an arm of state urban development department, cancelled the tenders for the flyover on Ratu Road (Harmu), including the approach and service roads, drains and shifting of electric and water pipelines.

"No bidder has applied for this project. So we had to cancel this tender floated a month back. Further action will be taken soon after consulting with the urban development department," deputy general manager of Juidco Alok Kumar Mandal said.

Another Juidco official cited two reasons behind the apathy among bidders.

"The detailed project report and estimates are now over two years old. Prices of several items have changed during this time. Probably we will have to revise the project estimates. Moreover, the land acquisition process is still not over. Unless, the land is fully acquired, no agency would like to burn its fingers by taking up the job," he said.

Fresh tenders were issued for the Harmu flyover in the first week of April after Juidco booted out M/s Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd for alleged forgery.

Officials had alleged that the agency registered in Mumbai had forged its credentials and wasn't competent enough to execute the Rs 130-crore project.

However, the latest development has plunged the project into uncertainty. Juidco general manager (planning & monitoring) Sajal Sengupta said the next tendering process would happen soon.

The flyover in question is meant to be 2.34km long, rising at LPN Nath Shahdeo Chowk on Kanke Road and plunging at Kartik Oraon Chowk in Harmu.

Around 246.056 decimal of government land and another 296.028 decimal of private land have been earmarked for acquisition.
