Dhanbad: Seventeen months ago, Bokaro social worker Manoj Singh lost his 18-year-old son in a bike crash. Yash Raj, a Class XII student of Sree Ayappa Public School was not wearing a helmet when he died on January 12, 2017.
The tragedy prompted 42-year-old Singh, who has been providing relief to accident victims for the last six years, to embark on a mission to create awareness about traffic rules and the advantages of wearing a helmet.
In the past 12 months, the Central Coalfields employee has distributed over 247 helmets and put up more than 2,000 traffic safety posters in different areas of Bokaro.
Besides distributing free helmets, Singh also organises traffic safety awareness camps in different parts of the steel town under the banner of Yash We For You.
"We will be distributing over 500 helmets on January 12 next year by organising camps at Dharmshala Road in Chas in the morning, Pattharchata in the afternoon and at Naya More later in the day," said Singh, adding that the outfit would primarily target youths in the age group of 18 to 28 years during the drive.
