Unidentified thieves decamped with cash from an unguarded Canara Bank ATM kiosk in Pandra on capital outskirts in the small hours of Friday.
According to the Ranchi circle in-charge of FSS Ltd, a Chennai-based company, which operates the Canara Bank ATM, around Rs 7.80 lakh was deposited in this kiosk near Bajra High School on Ranchi-Gumla Road in Pandra on Friday evening.
“The exact amount stolen can’t be ascertained. We are yet to gather details of transactions from our main server,” said FSS Ranchi circle in-charge B.L. Ramesh.
A forensic team of the police reached the ATM kiosk, 15km from the city, with a dog squad on Friday morning.
Pandra outpost in-charge Rajesh Prasad Rajak said the ATM kiosk was totally destroyed with a gas-cutter.
“The criminals destroyed the CCTV camera inside the kiosk. They used a gas-cutter to open the machine and decamped with its cash cassette and dispenser tray,” said Rajak.
Ranchi SP Kishore Kaushal blamed the bank for not providing security. “Police patrolled the place around 3.30am. The crime must have been taken place after that,” said the SP.
FSS Ranchi in-charge Ramesh said the bank did not provide any. The firms runs 19 ATM kiosks of Canara Bank in Jharkhand.
