Surmai Tete |
Ranchi, April 17: After a hectic training schedule followed by the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, in which the Indian women?s hockey team won the silver medal, at least two players from Jharkhand including captain Sumrai Tete are keeping themselves busy in a different ball game altogether.
Sumrai and another member of the women?s hockey squad Ashunta Lakra are now busy appearing for their examinations.
While Sumrai, a student of Gossner College, is taking her B.A Part III examinations; Ashuta, an Arts student of Government Girls School, is appearing for her intermediate examinations. And owing to lack of preparations all this while, both of them said, some of their papers were not ?up to the mark?.
But they were quick to add that baring one or two papers, they have fared well in almost all the papers and are expecting good results.
Both of them said they had carried some books during their trip to Melbourne to study. But they failed due to the hectic schedule there. ?We seldom used to get time to study, but still we managed to read sometimes,? said Ashuta Lakra, sister of Indian men?s hockey player Vimal Lakra.
Talking to The Telegraph, Ashunta said: ?When I was going to take part in the training camp before the Games, I had planned to carry some books along with me. And I had also packed them into a suitcase. But due to last minute rush and some problems, I left back the suitcase and in a hurry could carry only two books along with me,? said Ashunta.
?During the camp, we had to practise in the morning. Then after two hours of lunch break we had to resume practice. We also had to attend the theory classes. By the time we finished our dinner, it usually came close to 10 pm. So, we hardly got any time for studies. But still I managed to cover up some portions of the syllabus,? she said.
Ashunta said except Hindi, in which she failed to fare well, she had no problems with other papers.
Things are no different for Sumrai Tete as well.
