Three dengue monitoring teams, a joint move of East Singhbhum administration and health department, inspected three different areas in Jamshedpur on the second day of their crackdown on Wednesday.
Each team comprising four members - two health staff, an entomologist and a magistrate deputed by administration - inspected dengue-prone areas in Baridih, Mango and Jugsalai from 11am to 5pm.
"We decided to send our teams to three different areas in order to gauge the awareness among masses towards dengue," said district surveillance (integrated disease surveillance program) officer Dr Sahir Pall.
The teams inspected different pockets in Jugsalai (south of Jamshedpur), Bagunnagar in Baridih (east Jamshedpur) and densely populated areas in Post Office Road of Mango (north Jamshedpur).
"Our teams informed Jugsalai, Sidhgora, Baridih and Mango police stations before carrying out the inspection. We did not need any police protection as we just wanted to alert the residents to take adequate protection against dengue," added Dr Sahir Pall.
In Jugsalai, the team searched 105 houses and destroyed 30 containers with 1,503 larvae and 156 pupae of musquitoes. Warnings were issued to 13 houses.
The team inspected 34 houses in Baridih and destroyed 22 containers with vector larvae. Over 315 larvae and 75 pupae were also destroyed and 15 households were issued warning. In Mango, the team visited 75 houses and destroyed 18 containers with vector larvae were destroyed.
Larvicides were also sprayed in all the three areas.
"We are maintaining database of the house owners who have been served warning. They will be fined Rs 500 if the team spots the containers again after a week," said Dr Pall.
