South Indian actor Prakash Raj, who has contested the Lok Sabha polls from Bangalore Central, will be campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi before its seven seats vote on May 12.

“The Aam Aadmi Party is fighting the elections on the issues of health, education and their vision and based on their work. This is what we need,” Raj said on Saturday.

“This is my gesture, and my belief, that different people with different thought processes but love for the country come together to make this democracy, to reclaim the republic, which we may lose with the onslaught of communal and hatred politics of the (NDA) government.”

Raj is among Left-leaning artistes and independent politicians who have expressed support for the AAP. He is to participate in rallies, marches and bus campaigns, and address a meeting of south Indians on Monday.

Raj had campaigned for the CPI’s Kanhaiya Kumar in Begusarai, Bihar, before the April 29 vote.

Jignesh Mevani, the Ambedkarite Independent MLA from Gujarat, is expected to campaign for the AAP’s Atishi Marlena in East Delhi from Sunday.

The CPM and the CPIML Liberation have announced support for the AAP, as have many JNU students and Delhi’s small community of Leftist activists.

JNU students’ union president N. Sai Balaji of the Liberation-backed All India Students’ Association has addressed a news conference with AAP leaders.
