Pak shells kill five of family

Pakistani shelling across the Line of Control on Sunday claimed the lives of five members of a family in Poonch, Jammu, the highest single-day civilian toll in months.

Srinagar: Pakistani shelling across the Line of Control on Sunday claimed the lives of five members of a family in Poonch, Jammu, the highest single-day civilian toll in months.

A seven-year-old child was among the dead and his five-year-old sister was injured.

Officials said the Pakistani army had resorted to heavy shelling around 7.45am on Sunday in the Balakote sector.

One of the shells landed on the home of Mohammad Ramzan, killing him, his wife and three sons on the spot at Devta Sargloon village in Poonch district. Two of Ramzan's daughters suffered critical injuries and were flown to a hospital in Jammu.

The slain have been identified as Ramzan, 35, his wife Malika Vivi, 32, and their three sons - Abdul Rehman, 14, Mohammad Rizwan, 12, and Razaq Ramzan, 7.
