Malappuram, March 22 (PTI): Three policemen were injured when activists of the National Development Front, a minority outfit, pelted stones at the Kottakkal police station last night seeking the release of its leaders. Twenty-five NDF men have been taken into custody.
Two NDF leaders were taken into custody for questioning yesterday in connection with clashes involving the NDF and the RSS in Tirur.
Kochi (PTI): Security at the Cochin Port Trust has been stepped up after it received a letter threatening attacks on vessels at the port. The letter was addressed to the port trust chairman, and threatened to carry out attacks on foreign passenger and naval vessels at the port.
Jammu (PTI): About 4,700 vehicles were stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway as it remained closed for the twelfth consecutive day on Thursday. Nearly 3,000 vehicles, mostly goods carriers, were held up between Nagrota and Panthial.
Salem (PTI): Four persons were killed and 16 injured when an LPG cylinder exploded in a house at Hosur on Thursday. The blast brought down all the four portions of the two-storeyed building.
New Delhi (PTI): As many as 30,000 youths from all over the country will march from Meerut to Delhi on May 7 to commemorate the first war of Independence in 1857. The five-day national youth rally, symbolising the march of sepoys who revolted against the British, will culminate at Red Fort on May 11.
Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): The Kerala government will consider declaring Good Friday a dry day in the state, excise minister P.K. Gurudasan
told the Assembly on Thursday. It will consider ordering closure of toddy shops and other liquor outlets, he said in reply to a submission in this regard.
