New Delhi, July 21 :
Rajya Sabha MP Swaraj Kaushal was asked to resign as the principal government interlocutor with Naga rebel leaders by the Prime Minister a few days back after he allegedly gave ?concessions? to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) faction on key issues.
The Centre today formally announced the removal of the husband of BJP MP Sushma Swaraj, now in political wilderness.
The government?s new representative for peace talks with the rebel outfit is former Union home secretary K. Padmanabhaiah, who had been working as officer-on-special-duty in the Cabinet secretariat. In that capacity, Padmanabhaiah was closely associated with Nagaland affairs.
According to highly-placed government sources, Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee and Union home minister L.K. Advani were ?dissatisfied? with Kaushal?s dealings with the outfit. They feel Padmanabhaiah is likely to adopt a stand more suited to the government.
But Kaushal?s removal, observers said, also has a political dimension. His MP wife had taken a pro-Bansi Lal stand during the political crisis in Haryana in contrast to the party line.
