Guwahati: The names of the family members of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed's nephew do not figure in the draft National Register of Citizens in Assam as they could not apply for inclusion because of the absence of legacy data tracing their ancestry, sources in the family said on Tuesday.
The fifth President's nephew, Ziauddin Ahmed, 55, his wife Akima Begum and sons Habib Ali Ahmed and Wajed Ali Ahmed are residents of Kahmari Barampur village, Rangia, in Assam's Kamrup district.
Ziauddin, a farmer, is the son of the late Ikramuddin Ali Ahmed, the brother of the former President.
"We did not have the documents. When we went to apply, the date of submission was over," Ziauddin told The Telegraph over phone. The last date for application was August 31, 2015.
Ziauddin's family visited their relatives in places such as Barpeta, Goalpara, Abhayapuri and Rangia in search of their legacy data but failed to procure any document that could be attached with their application as mandated in the NRC procedure.
