New Delhi, April 21: The CBI today filed the chargesheet in the Nalco bribery case against seven persons, including former chairman Abhay Kumar Srivastava and his wife Chandni.
CBI spokesperson Dharni Mishra said the others charged were Bhushan Lal and Anita Bajaj — the couple who allegedly acted as conduits for the Srivastavas — and Gurvinder Singh Bhatia, head of the Indore-based Bhatia Group of companies, and his colleagues Jaswinder Singh and Ratan Pal. The company allegedly paid the bribes in return for Nalco contracts.
“All the seven have been charged under criminal conspiracy and prevention of corruption act,” said Mishra, referring to the chargesheet filed in a Delhi court well within the 60-day limit of the arrests.
Gurvinder and Jaswinder are absconding while others five are in judicial custody in Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Srivastava, 58, and his wife Chandni were arrested on February 25 in Delhi along with Bhushan and Anita, who allegedly collected bribes on behalf of the Srivastavas. Ten kg of gold bricks worth Rs 2.15 crore and Rs 29.5 lakh in cash were seized from Chandni’s bank lockers.
“The two couples have also been charged with forgery and impersonation,” said a CBI officer. The CBI told the court that the sacked PSU chief made huge investments in movable and immovable properties with money allegedly earned as bribes.
