New Delhi, March 11: The CBI has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court expressing willingness to take over 60 cases of fake judicial and other government stamp papers from state police. Several have links with Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind behind the scam.
On February 3, the apex court had directed all the states and Union territories to hand over details and documents relating to the Telgi stamp paper scam to the CBI so that the agency could inform it of the actual volume and magnitude of the scam.
Nine states — Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal — had referred around 120 such cases to the CBI for scrutiny. Out of these, the bureau decided to select only 60 cases, including one from Bengal, as they have national and international ramifications, the sources said.
