New Delhi, May 17: The BJP today expelled Karnataka leader Lehar Singh Siroya, a day after he accused L.K. Advani of compromising on honesty. Siroya had hit out at Advani for blaming the BJP’s defeat in Karnataka on the “corrupt” B.S. Yeddyurappa.

In an open letter yesterday, Siroya, a BJP MLC and a Yeddyurappa loyalist, alleged that Advani’s track record on corruption was far from clean and that the senior leader had compromised on honesty whenever it suited him.

“You were the prime minister-in-waiting and we were all working untiringly to make your dream come true. Even at that that point, you never bothered to check where the money was coming from to get MPs elected,” Siroya wrote, referring to 2009 when Advani was projected the party’s Prime Minister candidate. The letter suggested that the internal war in the party’s top leadership centring on Karnataka was far from over.

The state BJP termed Siroya’s allegations as “false” and “baseless”.

“His letter does not carry any weight. It’s just an attempt to defame the party,” said state BJP spokesperson S. Prakash. “He’s acting on behalf of his mentor B.S. Yeddyurappa,” he added, accusing the Karnataka Janata Party chief of fomenting trouble in the BJP which he quit in November.

“Our senior leaders will not comment on such a petty issue (as expelling) as this.”

Prakash also had a word of advice for the former chief minister, whose KJP played a decisive role in the BJP’s loss of power. “He should be mending his ways,” he said.
