Mumbai, May 7: An Enforcement Directorate chargesheet has mentioned financial links between businessman Hasan Ali Khan, who is in custody for money laundering, with Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi.

The directorate chargesheet said Hasan Ali may have been “introduced” by Khashoggi for an account in UBS Singapore.

The Pune-based stud farm owner is believed to hold several overseas bank accounts.

The probe agency said its deduction was based on a letter signed by Hasan Ali for Prabhu Guptara, director, organisational development, at Wolfsberg Executive Development Centre, Switzerland — a subsidiary of UBS — as well as statements during interrogation. The letter was written to Guptara after the UBS froze an account belonging to Hasan Ali, following a transfer of money from Khashoggi.

Hasan Ali’s Calcutta businessman-aide Kashinath Tapuriah’s statements also hinted that Hasan Ali knew the beneficiary of the UBS account was Khashoggi and that the stud farm owner was acting as a “front man”. “The account was used for the purpose of parking Adnan Khashoggi’s funds as he was a persona non grata in Switzerland,” the chargesheet said.

Tapuriah also told the sleuths that he was once shown the statement of the UBS bank account in 2005-06 in Zurich by Hasan Ali and it had a balance of $2 billion in it.
