Mumbai, Jun. 28 (PTI): Five persons including a man on the ground were killed when a 12-seater aircraft crashed in a crowded Mumbai suburb on Thursday.

Those killed are two pilots and two aircraft maintenance engineers on board and a pedestrian, police said.

ABP News named the dead as pilot Maria Kuber, co-pilot Pradeep Rajput, and technicians Manish Pandey and Surabhi.

The pilot seemed to have tried to land near a building under construction and not near the highly-populated localities. The pilot died in the crash.

The plane, which crashed in the Jagruti Nagar locality shortly after 1pm on Thursday, once belonged to the Uttar Pradesh government and was sold to UY Aviation, an official said.

The King Air C90 aircraft had taken off from the Juhu airstrip on a test flight, he said.

Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation have reached the crash site for a preliminary investigation, the official said. It is expected that the detailed enquiry will be done by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

ABP News said the black box or flight recorder had been recovered from the crash site.
