His Ranvi — short for Ranvijay — in Veera (STAR Plus) has fast become a small-screen heart-throb. Meet Delhi boy Shivin Narang.
How would you describe your two years on TV?
Very interesting... a great learning experience. I was very new to it, but while working, I developed an interest to learn more. I didn’t feel like: ‘Oh god! Where am I working or what am I doing? Both the shows (Suvreen Guggal and Veera) are very different, the target audience is different. Suvreen Guggal (Channel V) was a college show, Veera is a family drama. I feel like in these two years, I have gathered 10 years of experience.
How has life changed for you after becoming a known face?
When I started Suvreen Guggal, most of my fans included teenagers and girls, but after Veera, the fan following has increased three to four times. Teenagers and their moms together watch Veera.
How do you handle female attention?
It feels really great, the love, the support... everything. Kahin pe bhi jaoon, kuch bhi ho, achha phase ho, bura phase ho, they are always supportive.
Any crazy fan encounters?
Recently I went to attend my cousin’s wedding in Delhi. There were around 500 guests and all of them came to me to get a picture clicked and there was nobody with the newly-weds! It was very embarrassing. After Veera, it was my first visit to Delhi and it was... crazy! This is the power of television... I guess people feel that we are a part of their lives. Ranvi is a very homely boy, ghar ka achha beta types. In Suvreen, my character of Yuvraj was very heroic, used to dress in style, do parkour and various other stunts.
Where do you think your appeal lies?
I am very simple and honest.
Everyone’s crushing on you. Who are you crushing on?
At present, I don’t have any crush, but obviously there have been crushes in the past!
You have a great body. How do you maintain it?
There have been no breaks as such, the schedule is quite hectic. Every New Year, my resolution is to work out religiously, but ho nahin paata. Luckily, there is a 24x7 gym near my place. So after pack-up, around midnight, I hit the gym and work out for around one-and-a-half hours.
Was it easy or challenging to join an already successful show?
When I was offered Veera, I refused to do it as it was an ongoing show and I was not sure how the response would be after the generation leap. Being a part of a critically-acclaimed show like Veera, you have to give your 500 per cent to match their level… not to compete, but to match.
How would you describe Shivin Narang?
Shivin Narang is honest, fun-loving... he is simple. He loves to hang out with friends, watch movies... aur apne baare mein itni taareef nahin kar sakta!
What’s the best compliment you’ve got so far?
Since Veera, people meet me and treat me like their ghar ka beta. They bless me and these gestures are so sweet. Sometimes I feel: ‘Do I deserve the amount of love I am getting from everyone?’
