Wakanda Forever tops weekend box office in India; Uunchai is peaking too

Sooraj Barjatiya’s Uunchai and Yashoda starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu were the biggest earners among Indian films this weekend

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is laughing its way to the box office. In India, it has already grossed more than Rs 40 crore in the first three days after its release on November 11. The superhero movie directed by Ryan Coogler has left behind all the new Bollywood releases of the week, as per Box Office India estimates. Wakanda Forever collected Rs 12.75 crore nett on day one, followed by Rs 14.5 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 14.75 crore nett on Sunday.

The growing word-of-mouth publicity is helping Sooraj Barjatiya’s Uunchai solidify its position at the box office. The emotional drama frontlined by Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani has crossed double digits in earnings over the weekend. Despite a limited release in less than 500 screens, Uunchai collected Rs 10.16 crore in the first weekend, according to trade analysts. Rajshri Productions plans to increase the show’s screenings in phases in the days to come.

Yashoda starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu is also having a fantastic run in cinemas, grossing Rs 10.2 crore over the weekend. Despite mixed reviews from critics, viewers are queuing up for this sci-fi thriller. As per Box Office India, the film collected Rs 3.06 crore nett on Friday, Rs 3.64 crore nett on Saturday and Rs 3.5 crore nett on Sunday. Yashoda is Samantha’s first pan-India release in five languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Meanwhile, the Hindi dubbed version of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara has crossed the Rs 75-crore mark in the fifth weekend. The supernatural action thriller entered its fifth week with a solid Rs 1.25 crore nett earning on Friday, followed by Rs 2.3 crore nett collection on Saturday and Rs 2.7 crore nett on Sunday.
