Tripling Season 3 is beautifully flawed. Unlike its previous outings, the latest season of this show — directed by Neeraj Udhwani and co-written by Sumeet Vyas — lacks sharp one-liners and hilarious moments, apart from coming across as abrupt at times. But that doesn’t minimise the deep emotions that run through the series, making it a moving watch.
Things go awry for siblings Chandan (Sumeet Vyas), Chanchal (Maanvi Gagroo) and Chitvan (Amol Parashar) when they discover that their parents want to get “happily separated” and their childhood home has been sold off. Here’s why the TVF show streaming on Zee5 strikes a chord with us.
Tripling’s ghar waapsi moments are so relatable
It’s homecoming for the sibling trio when the world reopens after the pandemic. From sipping hot chocolate together to sitting at the breakfast table, going to the local market with mum for groceries to sharing a smoke in the middle of the night, the characters relive each and every moment, delving deep into the pool of childhood memories.
Parents deserve their own space
Kumud Mishra-Shernaz Patel’s Chinmay and Charu in Tripling steal our hearts. The elderly couple, who have been married for 36 years, figure out that they want different things from life. When they share with their children — who are all above 30 — their decision to separate, the kids find it shocking, much to their dismay. At one point, Chinmay and Charu make sure they aren’t “answerable” to anyone. As parents, they offer privacy to their kids and respect their decisions instead of being judgmental. They now expect the same from their children.
The fear of losing family and home
On top of this heartbreaking news, the siblings also get to know that their parental house has been sold off. When the trio sit in the midst of packed boxes, memories rush in while the background track plays Ghar hi toh apna jahan. The best moment of Tripling Season 3 is when the siblings sit on the staircase soaked in rain. They decide to meet once or twice a year and create a WhatsApp group to stay in touch. An emotional Chitvan grabs his elder siblings and clings to them. His fear of losing home and family along with his fear of loneliness hits hard.
Chitvan owns Tripling Season 3
Chitvan grows to be a “homeless father” in the new season, fighting an almost lost battle to win the custody of his former girlfriend’s child whom he loves the most in the world. The way he calls out his sister Chanchal for passing a judgement that the kid isn’t his own blood or the way he explains to his mother how he and the child are emotionally tied portrays his deeply sensitive side. His ardent I-need-a-hug is a reminder of how everybody seeks warmth and affection in times of crisis.
Kunaal Roy Kapoor’s Pranav
As always, Kunaal Roy Kapoor is a treat to watch. In one of the most amusing scenes, Kunaal’s Pranav arrives in a helicopter to be beside his wife Chanchal (much to her surprise) during this trying phase. He is the darling of his in-laws. Then his party-pooper scene during the family trek takes us back to his track in his debut film Delhi Belly. Torn between property disputes, we feel him when he wants to forget everything and settle in the middle of nature. He is also the only one to get Chinmay and Charu’s perspective — that they might be so secure in each other’s love, they can let each other go.
