Bright cotton saris for tribal woman Gangaur and smart casuals for the photographer who clicks her and gets into trouble — that’s what the two protagonists of Italo Spinelli’s Choli Ke Peechhe will sport in the film and the lady dressing them up is city designer Suchismita Dasgupta.
“I was called for an audition by Italo’s team a few weeks back. I had shown them my work for Chaturanga and Bibar, and they liked it. They have asked me to work on the four main characters of Choli Ke Peechhe. So, I am designing for Paoli as Gangaur, Irrfan who plays the photographer, Samrat Chakrabarti who plays his assistant and Irrfan’s screen wife,” says Suchismita, on cloud nine having bagged an international project. The film goes on the floors on November 20.
“I am working hard. I want to dress Irrfan the way Raghu Rai dresses. Italo has asked me to get rid of cliches. He doesn’t want Irrfan in six-pocket jackets. For Paoli’s character, I am researching the tribal dress code of Purulia. I want to use vibrant colours for her,” adds Suchismita, who is busy designing costumes for Suman Mukhopadhyay’s film Mahanagar@Kolkata.
