Ayushmann, straight from the mann

Ayushmann Khurrana is a non-veg, non-drinker who reads Dalrymple and listens to Despacito
What’s in my bar?
Everything, I think. I don’t drink, my wife’s (Tahira) more of a drinker. She’s a vegetarian and a drinker, I’m a non-vegetarian and a non-drinker. It’s a weird combination.
What’s on my hit list?
I’m done with long narrations. If you’re not happy with the first 30 minutes of a narration, I think you should just say thank you. I’ve never done it, but I want to — I aspire to.
What’s my workout plan?
Workout, for an actor, depends on the character you’re playing on screen. Since I do mostly realistic films, I need to have a realistic body. I do a mix of cardio and weights, but don’t indulge in heavy weights.
My ideal house party would be…
...A small musical get-together. Like a small jam session where I’d invite all my music and theatre friends.
What’s on the wall of my favourite room in the house?
Books and childhood pictures.
Movies I can’t stop raving about?
Surprisingly, I don’t watch too many movies. More than Hollywood or Bollywood, I prefer watching international films. I’ve been recommending this Arabic film called Wadjda. It’s about a girl who wants to ride a bicycle and that’s her dream, because girls can’t openly ride bicycles in Saudi Arabia. And then there are a lot of Fatih Akin films. He’s quite mad! There’s also this film called I’m Julie; I thought it was a very interesting film.
Itinerary and travel plans?
I would like to go to Japan and Iceland. Japan because of Murakami and Iceland because it’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
I’ve read a lot of (Haruki) Murakami and all, but non-fiction has always interested me more. I love The Last Mughal by William Dalrymple.
What’s on my playlist right now?
A lot of popular songs like Despacito. I love Hawayein from Jab Harry Met Sejal. It’s a beautiful track. I normally don’t listen to my own film songs, because you listen to them so much when you’re shooting them. So by the time they’re released, you’re done with them. But I have Kanha (from Shubh Mangal Saavdhan) on loop right now.
Instagram follow list?
A lot of men’s fashion and accounts like National Geographic. There’s a handle called Vintage70s — right from Converse shoes to old-school bikinis... it’s amazing!
