John pours his heart out

It was easily the best episode in the show’s four-week run. John Abraham showed the vulnerability behind the brawn on Simi Selects: India’s Most Desirable on Sunday night when he poured his heart out about his “painful” break-up with girlfriend of eight years Bipasha Basu. Citing compatibility issues, the usually reserved John admitted that his relationship with the Bong bombshell had been on the rocks for a while, but chose to take the blame for the break-up, saying: “I am probably the reason that this relationship didn’t work.... I was not ready to commit when the relationship needed culmination.” But John is far from depressed about the split, even declaring that he “hopes to fall in love very soon”. Is Bipasha a guest on the Simi couch next?

MTV GRIND turns on the heat

Does your remote button pause at MTV post midnight? Described as a mix of “hot songs and even hotter women”, MTV Grind is where most of the eyeballs — male, of course! — are. So what’s the show all about? Er, nothing more than some scantily-clad women — most of them MTV VJs like Anusha, Gaelyn and Soniya — shaking their booty to the latest Bolly chartbusters. Shot around private beaches and in hotel swimming pools, Grind is largely a C&N(cleavage-and-navel) show. Temperatures are rising... and so are the TRPs.

Bade achche laggte hain is well liked

If you thought Ekta Kapoor was only capable of churning out regressive fare on television, take a good look at Bade Achche Laggte Hain. On air for five weeks,

the Sony show — about a mismatched couple in their 30s discovering love after marriage — is steadily climbing the viewership charts. The high point last week — which fetched the show its highest TRP count of 1.9 — was the run-up to the marriage of Ram (Ram Kapoor) and Priya (Sakshi Tanwar). Even the web world is going gaga over the new TV romance on the block. Sample: “Every woman in my family, extended family, their extended family are into Bade Achche Laggte Hain. Ok me too,” was the tweet from author Chetan Bhagat last week.

PAVITRA RISHTA sits pristine at the top

Boosted by a leap of half a decade, Zee tearjerker Pavitra Rishta zoomed back to the top of the TRP charts. The Ekta Kapoor show — focusing on the

Manav-Archana romance — has been a winner from Day One. But though the

Zee show has come up trumps, it’s STAR Plus — with five shows in the top 10 — which is the channel of the moment. The Hrithik Roshan reality show Just Dance is the only non-fiction format in the top 10. Colours — whose Balika Vadhu is now in second place after a slump forced it down the charts — had three shows in the top 10.
