The actress
Souravi Tarafdar
Age: 20.
Campus: Presidency University.
Stream: Political science.
Special mention: Actress on Bengali television channels.
Claim to fame: You’ve known her as Sanghita in the mega serial @bhalobasha.kom on STAR Jalsha. Now she is Anindita in Sheydin Dujone, aired daily on the same channel, and Sreeja in Sobinoy Nibedon on Sananda TV.
Starting point: Souravi says the producers saw her picture on Facebook and got in touch with her. One interview later, she was offered the lead in @bhalobasha.kom. But she refused because of a time crunch and opted for a side role instead.
The next step: The producer of @bhalobasha.kom introduced her to Sananda TV, where she signed up for Sobinoy Nibedon. “I was offered other roles too, but that would have hampered my studies. For Sobinoy Nibedon, I had to shoot during my Puja holidays, so it worked out well,” she says.
Sobinoy Nibedon is a love story between a Marwari girl and a Bengali boy. “I play a negative character in the Bengali family who tries to create trouble. It is a bilingual show with a part of the dialogue in Hindi, which was a really interesting format,” says Souravi.
Future plans: The third-year student says she wouldn’t mind taking up acting as a career. But right now, getting a good education is her foremost concern. “No compromises there!” says the pretty lady.
Family matters: Souravi says her family is extremely supportive of her decision to take up acting while studying because they know that she is “responsible enough to juggle both without compromising on either”.
Star motto: “It’s great fun acting. I get to make lots of new friends. It’s work as well as a lot of fun and I thoroughly enjoy every bit of it,” is the word from the star on the Presidency campus.
