#DILWALEFIED: MOTHER SWASTIKA AND DAUGHTER ANWESHA TELL THE TALE OF SRK-KAJOL AND SRK-VARUN!
SWASTIKA
Want to learn ‘how to woo a girl in 5 minutes?’ Dilwale is the best tutor you can get. The multi-talented SRK, the king of multitasking, not only ate (one-course meal and dessert) but showered his woman with love, affection, flowers, and danced with such elan there is no doubt there can be no better lover than him. When the film delivers the right amount of nostalgia, maybe a bit of overdose, and has the man peeping into your heart (there can be anyone opposite him, we believe he is looking at us) with those dreamy eyes, arched eyebrows and outstretched arms (that one signature pose that he rightfully owns) you cannot help but fall in love.
I remember DDLJ ended with the tag line ‘come fall in love’... well we do hold on to that invitation, go to the theatres and fall in love over and over again.
A wet cold winter morning and mother-daughter both ready bang on time never happens. But we succeeded on December 18, 2015. Tickets to the first day-first show of Dilwale had warmed both of us considerably well. My daughter spelt “maa” and “Shah Rukh Khan” almost simultaneously, so it’s obvious that I missed out on a lot of dialogues thanks to her and a house full of insane fans screaming ‘JIO SHAH RUKH’. We seldom agree on things nowadays but the fact that we love Shah Rukh Khan and everything about him hasn’t changed.
I have loved him paired up with a lot of heroines. Rani, Preity, Kareena. But with Kajol it doesn’t really end with pairing or the chemistry, there is much more to it which I believe happens due to some divine intervention. No on-screen couple looks so real, so true, so much in love, so comfortable, so alive as they do. As an audience, I went to watch them knowing exactly that they are going to meet, fall in love at jet speed, have huge Mt. Everest-sized misunderstandings, be this epitome of honesty and spill every piece of secret on the second date, have more misunderstandings, fight, shoot, kill, heal, fall in love again and they will run quite a bit for the sake of running. It had to be as predictable as Bollywood blockbusters, but then don’t we just die to watch the same things happening to SRK-KAJOL?
Dilwale is a smarter, cooler, more Photoshopped Rohit Shetty-er version of a familiar love-hate story which definitely showcases a mature RAJ-SIMRAN melting into each other’s eyes as they did ages ago. srk looking hottest in those oh-so-cool jackets and quite a new Kajol who looked yummy in those spectacularly stylish skirt-tops. Manish Malhotra has so beautifully transformed our old-time favourite Raj-Simran to today’s raj-meera that, at times, I did forget that we are getting old. But then RAJ will be RAJ and he will leave no stone unturned to capture our already melted hearts as he does in Janam janam and Gerua. On second thoughts, srk doesn’t really need to turn a stone, we are addicted to him anyway.
This pair of SRK-Kajol should be framed and gifted to us every year. Yes, as the lyrics go, we do not want them to tell us ‘alvida’. We can and will watch them for hours without complaining. THEM and the rain, THEM and Iceland, THEM and the rainbow, the sky, the lake, the mountains, with them around even mundane looks special.
‘Nikli hai dil se yeh duaa’… yes that’s what my heart says as well, that god bless and keep them evergreen forever.
