She made it a night to remember, wowing a packed Nazrul Mancha with Shreya’s Melody partnered by The Telegraph, on November 24. “Calcutta! Anek din por dekha hochche… Kemon achho tomra?” asked Shreya, as the crowd welcomed her with a thunderous roar. She began with Deewani mastani from Bajirao Mastani and went on to sing Bahara from I Hate Luv Storys and Agar tum mil jao from Zeher. A medley of Jaadu hai nasha hai and Tum mile followed.
“We all are always on the lookout for true love. True love is very hard to find and when you do, you give it your everything even if it means going the hard way,” said Shreya, the most followed Bollywood singer on Instagram (with 7.9 million followers), before singing Samjhawan.
The highlight of the evening was Sunn raha hai from Aashiqui 2. “I know you all have waited a long time to hear this, so here goes,” she said as the piano entered with the popular intro arpeggio.
But it wasn’t all about chart-topping Bollywood hits, Shreya sang her first independent single Dhadkane azad hai and also paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore with Ekla chalo re. “This song is recognised globally and it makes us feel good as individuals,” she said.
The evening came to a close with Ami je tomar from Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and quite rightly so, with its amazing unisons. “Thank you Calcutta for coming here and being a part of this concert... Bhalo theko, abar dekha hobe,” she signed off.
