Shoot from the lips

Adah Sharma tells fan where to draw the line when he asks for a ‘filmi-style’ kiss from the 1920 actress

What’s in a kiss? A lot if there is a demand for one. A usually demure Adah Sharma of horror flick 1920 fame recently launched into an angry tirade on Twitter when she got into a testy exchange of words with a fan when she refused to, hold your breath, kiss him.

Not able to take the rejection, the fan evidently bombarded her with statements like how she kisses on screen and how it would have been no big deal to kiss him.

“You know I never say anything, but this is one time I thought it is important that I speak up and make my point as this was turning into an issue,” said Adah, when we called her up to understand what exactly got her so furious.

“We were at the Mumbai airport and these fans came with some gifts and there was this guy who said he is a big fan and asked if he could have a kiss. I laughed but he insisted that I could kiss on his cheeks if not his lips. I still laughed along, not knowing how to deal with it. It was not appropriate but I did not know what to say. And that’s when things got weird as he asked if I could kiss any actor on screen why could I not kiss him, referring to my kisses in Commando 2 and Heart Attack (Telugu),” she said.

The fan then went on a trolling spree on Twitter, where he also got support from some others. This is of course not the first time when a layman has failed to differentiate between a screen act and real-life persona.

Of late we have seen Deepika Padukone getting much flak for her role in Padmavati, just because of some of the characters she has played in the past. Just to rewind, Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi had called Deepika “a woman who dances for money”.

Steering away from the Deepika controversy, Adah said: “People need to be able to understand what we play on screen is not what we are. My part in 1920 was possessed by a ghost and she ate a cat. (This) Does not mean I behave similarly in real life,” she said.

“And even if I kiss someone, on or off screen, I think it is only normal that should be my own decision and choice. I found it funny when people on Twitter asked what was the problem if someone asked me for a kiss on
his cheeks!”
