Rukmini’s tale of Radha and Krishna, with t2

Radha or Rukmini, who is closest to Krishna? Is Rukmini jealous of Radha? What is the equation between Krishna and Rukmini? Saanjh, a dance recital presented by Takht in association with t2, addressed these thoughts at Uttam Mancha recently.

Radha or Rukmini, who is closest to Krishna? Is Rukmini jealous of Radha? What is the equation between Krishna and Rukmini? Saanjh, a dance recital presented by Takht in association with t2, addressed these thoughts at Uttam Mancha recently.

Based on the narrative of Rukmini and her take on the celebrated relationship of Radha and Krishna, the performance took the audience to the land of Mathura and Vrindavan. While Rukmini is the wife of Krishna, Radha remains his eternal beloved. The performance explored the dynamics in their relationships with Bollywood numbers and through contemporary dance forms.

Suhena Deb as Radha, Sangram Mukhopadhyay as Krishna and Mihika Banerjee as Rukmini stole the show.

With the colourful set design by Ritwika Saha and costumes by Swagata Ghosh Roy, Saanjh was choreographed by Sangram Mukhopadhyay who made sure it was a visual treat.

“The idea was to find out how a wife, like Rukmini, would react and reconcile her faith in her husband, knowing fully well the love story brewing between him and Radha,” said Suhena, one of the performers in Takht, a city-based dance forum.

“Special congratulations to the entire chorus for their exemplary support. I am exhilarated not only by the performance but also the young and rejuvenating energy they created on stage,” said dancer-choreographer Alokananda Roy.
