RRR’s Oscar campaign: Makers of S.S. Rajamouli’s epic drama apply for Oscar nomination in main categories

The film, starring Jr. N. T. R., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt, collected around Rs 1,200 crore gross worldwide

The makers of S.S. Rajamouli’s epic action drama RRR, which won acclaim from filmmakers and cinephiles from across the globe, have appealed to The Academy for Oscars for considering the Indian blockbuster for nomination in the main categories for the Academy Awards.

RRR’s official Twitter handle shared the update on the microblogging platform on Thursday evening. “#RRRForOscars” read the tweet alongside a picture of Rajamouli, and actors Jr. N.T.R and Ram Charan, and a note from the makers.

“We are honoured that RRR's overwhelming success represented Indian Cinema on the global stage by creating milestones at the worldwide box office and uniting film buffs across the world by transcending linguistic & cultural barriers,” the note read.

“We applied to The Academy for Oscars consideration in general category. We wish our RRR family the best and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible. Here's to continuing to win hearts and entertain audiences worldwide,” the makers further stated in the note shared on Twitter.

The film is one of the most successful movies of this year worldwide. It received rave reviews and praise from renowned Hollywood directors like Scott Derrickson, Edgar Wright, and James Gunn.

RRR is one of the films to be nominated in three categories at the 47th Saturn Awards — Best Action / Adventure Film, Best International Film and Best Director.

Apart from Jr. N.T.R and Ram Charan, the film also featured Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris. RRR was released in theatres on March 25.
