RRR registers 1 million footfalls in Japan, Rajamouli thanks audience for “showering love” on the film

Headlined by Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, the period drama also stars Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran

After becoming the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan, S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR, headlined by Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, has registered one million footfalls in that country, the film’s official Twitter handle announced on Tuesday.

“#RRRMovie records 1 Million+ footfall in 164 Days and continues its rocking run,” the tweet said.

Reacting to the news, Rajamouli took to Twitter to thank the Japanese audience for showering their love on RRR. “Showered with 1 Million hugs from Japanese fans…Arigato Guzaimasu #RRRinJapan,” he wrote.

RRR, which released in 240 screens (including 31 Imax screens) across 44 cities and prefectures in Japan in October last year, has been running uninterrupted for 164 days in the country. The visual epic has so far raked in Rs 80 crore in Japan, according to Box Office India data.

Not just in Japan, RRR has been wooing audiences all over the world in the past year. The film bagged several international awards, including a Golden Globes award, Critics Choice Awards and Hollywood Critics Association Awards. The foot-tapping number Naatu Naatu from the film even bagged an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Also starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Olivia Morris, RRR is a fictionalised tale revolving around freedom fighters Alluri Seetharama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr. NTR). The action-packed visual extravaganza has grossed over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide.
