Calcutta girl Dimpy Ganguly Mahajan is a contestant on Zor Ka Jhatka, the Shah Rukh Khan-hosted reality show on Imagine that will premiere on February 1. A t2 chat…
Why a show like Zor Ka Jhatka?
Oh, I am a complete outdoor person and I don’t think there could have been a better show for me to be a part of. I have always been a huge Wipeout fan and ever since I knew that an Indian version was being planned, I kept praying that the makers would approach me! When they did, there was no way I was going to refuse.
For me, a show like Zor Ka Jhatka is the ultimate reality show because it has a mix of adventure, comic moments, thrills and spills… I have had a lot of fun shooting for the show and I can guarantee that viewers are going to love Zor Ka Jhatka when it goes on air in February.
Did you also agree to Zor Ka Jhatka because you knew that Shah Rukh Khan would be hosting the show?
(Laughs) Everyone seems to know about my Shah Rukh fixation! Yes, that was also a major factor. Forget me, anyone would be mad not to want to be a part of a show that features THE Shah Rukh Khan. Though he is the studio host and is not present with us on the sets in Argentina, he communicates with us on ground and it’s just hilarious with him around. Shah Rukh takes Zor Ka Jhatka to a completely different level altogether.
How has it been shooting for the show so far?
A lot of fun, but also very, very challenging. The format of the show is such that it takes a lot out of you, mentally and physically. At the end of the day, most of us can barely stand! I am doing the kind of stuff that I never thought I would do — jumping into the water, running through obstacles…. I have particularly enjoyed the Chakravyuh challenge, a task in which we had to navigate our way through a maze. That was challenging and also a lot of fun.
How has it been bonding with the other 27 contestants?
There are so many of us that there is never a dull moment. I did not know most of my fellow contestants before the shoot but now all of us get along extremely well. Even after the shoot, we hang out together a lot. Argentina is a beautiful country and many of us went out exploring the place together. Most of us girls have shopped till we dropped — and continue to do so! I have bonded especially well with Debina (Bonnerjee). We keep talking in Bangla and all the others get extremely irritated with us. It’s fun.
How supportive has Rahul (Mahajan, Dimpy’s husband) been of your decision to be a part of Zor Ka Jhatka?
When the offer came, he was far more excited than I was! But when he realised that it would mean that I would be away from India for more than a month, he was like: “Nahin tum mat jao na.” But all said and done, Rahul has been a sweetheart. I miss him a lot because we hardly get to speak given the time difference. I am enjoying the show, but I can’t wait to get back to my home and husband.
It’s been close to a year since you and Rahul got married on Swayamvar. What is your message for Ratan Rajpoot, who is set to take the plunge this time?
I wish her all the best and pray that she is able to take the right decision. I met the love of my life on the show. I hope she does too.
