The colours, sounds and flavours of Rajasthan can be experienced at Aapno Gaon Rajasthani Mela, which is on at Nicco Park Big Lawn in association with t2. And hold your horses, here you can enjoy a camel ride.

“I have been coming to this mela for the past three years just for this camel ride,” said Mannya Dhelia, a Class II student of Pratt Memorial School.

If not for camel rides, you can come just to sample the robust flavours of traditional Rajasthani food –– Dal Baati Churma, Baajre ki Roti, Gwarfali ki Sabji, Maalpoa, Gond Paak and much more.

What good is food without music and dance? It’s there and in plenty. “We come here every year. It is just wonderful to see these Rajasthani artistes perform,” said Pratibha Saraf, who was enjoying the mela with her family on the first day.

If you still haven’t been there, fret not. There is more in store. There’s Ramdeo Ji Ka Jumma — a rendition of devotional songs by Rafiq Sagar and Munna Vyas on December 27, a Marwari music performance by singer Seema Mishra on December 28 and the biggie — a live performance by Ila Arun on December 29.

The eight-day mela was inaugurated on December 24 by Madan Mitra, minister of state for sports and transport; Sujit Basu, MLA; Krishna Chakraborty, chairperson of Bidhannagar Municipality; Lalit Kumar Prahladka, president of Salt Lake Lok Sanskriti; and Sandeep Garg, secretary of Salt Lake Lok Sanskriti.
