LOVE BEE GEES? CATCH CANADIAN TRIBUTE BAND NIGHT FEVER STRUM IT UP ON SUNDAY WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE BEE GEES SONG? TELL T2@abp.in Published 16.11.13, 12:00 AM

After the death of brothers Maurice and Robin Gibb, chances of having another Bee Gees album are slim; it would be too much of a task for the lone Bee Gees survivor, Barry. But keeping the legendary group’s music alive is Canadian tribute act Night Fever, which will perform at CC&FC on November 17 as part of Black Dog Easy Evenings. Here’s what the band told t2

What about the Bee Gees made you start a tribute band?

John Ralph is the lead in the Night Fever Tribute (a production that does Bee Gees gigs) and plays the role of Barry Gibb. And John is friends with Barry in personal life. This is what led us to start a tribute band. Barry and Steven Spielberg have also spoken to John Ralph for playing the lead role in a Bee Gees movie.

Their songs cover several decades but somehow one gets to hear the usual Night Fever, Jive Talkin’.... How do you decide your track list?

There is no specific criterion for deciding our track list. We try to capture the full history of the Bee Gees in our performance.

How do you nail Barry Gibb’s falsetto?

Thankfully, Barry’s falsetto came naturally to us!

Andy Gibb (the fourth Gibb brother) is rarely spoken about. Do you guys touch on Andy’s songs?

We do perform Andy’s songs as part of our show. His music appealed to the young generation. He was a teen heart-throb who had amazing pop success. It is unfortunate that he died at such a young age (he was 30).

Your take on Barry’s music and lyrics...

Barry’s music and lyrics are great. The Bee Gees span over 50 years of hit songs and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in 1997). Barry’s music has incredible tenacity to remain current. The close high harmonies of brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice have made the Bee Gees one of the best attractions in music.

Who plays what in the band?

John Ralph is Barry Gibb, Michael Slute is Robin Gibb and Matthew Whale is Maurice Gibb. The songs are done note for note, chord for chord, exactly like the record.
