More of Momo I Am in Calcutta

Calcutta’s love for momos is all too evident. From roadside stalls to fine-dining restaurants, this comfort food is available almost everywhere. In 2012, a small eating place in south Calcutta presented these little dumplings of joy in an affordable yet hygienic avatar.

Calcutta’s love for momos is all too evident. From roadside stalls to fine-dining restaurants, this comfort food is available almost everywhere. In 2012, a small eating place in south Calcutta presented these little dumplings of joy in an affordable yet hygienic avatar.

From a tiny 20-seater in Lake Gardens to a posh 70-seater in Salt Lake, Momo I Am sure has grown up in five years but it hasn’t lost the charm with those graffitied walls, funky decor and pop culture stickers on the glass doors. It has spread across the city to four different locations and the food remains just as fun and flavourful.

“We are very happy with how far we’ve come in these five years. I think the main reason for Momo I Am’s success is that we serve quality food for a nominal price and there has been a lot of variety, right from the beginning,” said Darjeeling boy Reevu Wangdi, who conceptualised the restaurant with childhood friend Pravakar Yonzone.

The menu has expanded and grown, just like the restaurants themselves. Now you can find salads, dim sums and more options — making sure there’s something for everybody.
