NAMIT GIVES ‘BAJORIA’ A COOL NEW BEAT

We know him as the man behind Kutchina, and producer of films like Gaurav Pandey’s Hanuman.com and Anjan Dutt’s Madly Bangalee. On December 17, an hour before Michael Learns To Rock took the stage, a packed CC&FC saw Namit Bajoria in a new avatar: that of a percussionist with the opening act Beat Blasters. The seven-member band performed four compositions in 30 minutes and also launched a video. t2 later chatted with the man who is more than just a kitchen musician.
First beats: I always had a passion for music and learned various instruments like synthesiser and guitar. In fact, I had the desire to form a band during my college days (St. Xavier’s). But due to the pressures of business, I couldn’t pursue it any further. Fortunately, a few years ago I met Himadri (Sekhar Das), and he inspired me to learn drumming (in 2011). Finally we got together to form the band. Our music only has to do with beats.
Fave drummers: Sivamani inspired me but the guru of drumming for me is Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.
Practice time: We practised for about a year before doing our first public performance on December 17.
Fave MLTR songs: The Actor, Someday, That’s Why (You Go Away), Take Me To Your Heart, Paint My Love.
Drumming up next: We will be targeting the global festivals that promote experimental music. I would like to seriously give time to my band and develop new rhythmic ideas to make each and every concert unique. We will be launching our website soon.

WOW WEDNESDAY AT ROXY WITH MLTR AND THEIR FANS

For Davinia Jackson meeting lead singer Jascha Richter was the Moment of the Year. “I have grown up listening to their music. As a child I remember dozing off to their music and had never imagined Someday I would get to click a selfie with Jascha himself!” gushed Davinia, who snapped a selfie with friend Doretta.

DJ Rishi couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. “He is a legend and I consider myself lucky to have stood right next to him. The night was legendary,” said the resident DJ of Roxy.

It’s been very exciting to be in Calcutta and meet fans. The few times we have been in India we have got an awesome audience. Colours and smiling faces is the first thing that comes to mind when we think of India. — Jascha

Druna Paul was the happiest soul on Wednesday. Reason? She got a chance to chat with Team MLTR. “Due to prior commitments, I knew I couldn’t see them perform at CC&FC. So I did not want to miss the opportunity to catch them here. I was amazed to see them so friendly and relaxed. We spoke about Calcutta and I told them how crazy I am about them. It was a wow moment!” said the make-up artist whose fave MLTR track is Someday.

Tracks like Someday, Sleeping Child and Take Me To Your Heart lent Roxy a different feel on Wednesday night. Everyone had their eyes on the door as they counted down hours to see their fave Danish band Michael Learns To Rock. The wait was over around 10.40pm when the band and crew walked in and spent a relaxed night out, less than 24 hours before their epic gig at CC&FC, in association with t2. After catching up with the team, frontman Jascha Richter obliged fans with selfies.
