Chitrangda Singh, the lady who launched a thousand dreams with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, promises to be back on the silver screen, but her mentor has not heard from her yet.
Having completely disappeared from the scene after her second film Kal, Chitrangda, the wife of golfer Jyoti Randhawa and now a mother of their son, told a TV channel that she wishes to make a comeback and is waiting for the right film.
But Sudhir Mishra, who gave Chitrangda a dream debut as Geeta in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and who wrote a couple of more scripts keeping her in mind, has not got any call from the actress. “She never called me,” says Sudhir. “She never gave me any hint that she wants to make a comeback.”
The only other film that Chitrangda did, Kal, was directed by Sudhir’s assistant Ruchi Narain. And then, she was gone.
The Bolly buzz was that her golfer husband had banned her from the screen. “It was sad that she quit,” says Sudhir. “She was magnificent, really talented. She was fantastic in Hazaaron...”
According to Chitrangda, her husband had nothing to do with her leaving filmdom. “Otherwise I wouldn’t have come back,” she says. “I needed some time to sort things out. I needed to know what I want to do in life.”
After Chitrangda’s exit, while Sudhir couldn’t imagine anybody else as his leading lady for quite some time, he too had moved on. “I had to,” he says. “My job is to make films and I went ahead and thought of more ideas and started translating those ideas on screen. I guess, she went back to her family and from what photos I saw of her, she looked happy and wonderful. That’s what matters.”
Sudhir is hurt at not being called by Chitrangda, but he is eager to cast her again. “Oh definitely, I would love to work with her in the future,” he says. “There are no hard feelings as such. Whenever I have a part for her, I will offer her if she indeed does make the comeback. Yes, there was a time when I had planned a couple of movies with her in mind.”
Those movies got shelved and Sudhir started work on Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan with Vidya Balan which then became Khoya Khoya Chand with Soha Ali Khan. The film releases on December 7.
