Ramdulari Park
Artist: Sarathi Das
Title: ABBRU/VEIL — The Concealed Self of Humanity
Medium: An installation art work made of khatia, talai (local floor mat), kantha, canvas print, LED TV for video, stool, lampshed, books containing various research-based data, write-up from multi-perspective area etc...
Why it caught her eye: “Wow... so much hard work and passion! It’s also very symbolic of the rural lifestyle. The khatia and video hall are so symbolic of rape and molestation.... Besides, everything around is very gloomy and lifeless, depicting the decaying mindset of the youth today.... I am not one of those who understands art but I appreciate the passion behind it.”

CIMA Gallery
Artist:  Sintu Mazumdar
Title: Krishna, Radha and Kansha
Medium: Digital print on archival papers (triptych)
Why it caught her eye: “Krishna looks like a conman to me! Someone who can look innocent but behind the mask is an evil-natured man. Radha (centre) is very stylish but she is also hiding something. Kansha looks conniving
and evil.”

CIMA Gallery
Artist: Farhad Hussain
Title: Plural Poster
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Why it caught her eye: “The man in the middle, wearing a pink shirt, looks like Salman Khan! Every man and woman in the painting has a dual self. It’s a very interesting depiction. The woman in sari and bindi is shown wearing skimpy clothes on the roads. Maybe she is in the flesh trade for a living. On the other hand, a family man is shown eve-teasing.”

CIMA Gallery
Artist: Mainaz Bano
Title: Missing Nawab
Medium: Pure gold, silver foil, varnish and acrylic colour on canvas
Why it caught her eye: “This painting is so colourful, but at the same time it’s about the loss of a kingdom — everything else is in place except the king. His chair, umbrella, bottles of alcohol and even a packet of cigarettes... all except the most important man.”

CIMA Awards Show is on till April 12 at CIMA Gallery: 43 Sunny Towers, Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue; Studio 21: 17L Dover Terrace; Academy of Fine Arts: 2 Cathedral Road;  Ramdulari Park: 13/1 Ballygunge Park Road
