The interior solutions store Kaji at 38/A Garcha First Lane (near Gariahat Pantaloons) opened a new section on August 20. “This was the office space from where we provided interior consultancy. But we decided to add it to the existing 600sqft space to showcase furniture, wallpapers and other new products,” smiled Devina More, proprietor, Kaji.

Retro still dominates the collection of the now 1,200sqft store with the husband-wife duo Shrivant and Devina More at the helm. The quirky beer bottle chandelier still hangs high with Marilyn Monroe saucily smiling from all sorts of surfaces ranging from cushions, vintage chests and wall clocks. But even in the sea of the familiar it’s hard to miss how rich purple walls distinguish the furniture zone from the chaste white of the rest of the store.

“We have tried to build an experience right from the time you enter the store. The products are priced in a way that you don’t spend a lot on interiors. You are picking up statement pieces,” confirms Shrivant More.

“I have picked up 3D Godfather and Beatles wall arts from here. The beauty of the store is that the products are interactive and innovative and deal with entertainment and films. To me it’s a collaborative workshop,” said filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh, a Kaji patron present at the launch.

Rich wine and purple dominate the furniture and the pieces are mostly crafted out of mahogany, leatherette, velvet and suede. Mirrors quilted with leatherette, London and New York themed two-seater cube pouffes that can double as tables, rich velvet recliners and spherical love couches caught the eye. Antwerp Clock or the New York Skyline wallpaper serve as interesting backdrops. There are silk cushions with pictures of Johnny Depp (in Pirates of the Caribbean), Marlon Brando (in The Godfather) and even Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffany’s).
