Jodie Foster and Kali Reis play a detective duo at odds with each other as they look for killers amid Alaska’s moody, atmospheric visuals in a new teaser of the HBO crime drama series True Detective: Night Country, slated to premiere on January 14 next year.

The one-minute-56-second teaser introduces detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) who are trying hard to tackle their personal lives as well as their distrust for each other while trying to solve murders. From five bodies frozen into a chunk of ice together to saving a victim trapped under a frozen lake, this season has the troubled pair pushed to the brink.


The teaser showcases haunting shots of the icy countryside, shrouded in darkness and mystery. The brief flashes of crime scenes and cryptic symbols promise a thrilling season of the critically acclaimed series.

True Detective: Night Country is helmed by Issa Lopez as the writer and showrunner. Lopez also takes over the directorial responsibilities from Nic Pizzolatto, who created the True Detective series and directed the previous three seasons. Pizzolatto, Lopez and Foster are also a part of the long list of executive producers of the show.
