Is it true that you are not going to promote Karma Aur Holi?

Yes, I’m not going to promote the film at all. I won’t take a film to my audience till I see the potential and respect for the project. This is a very dignified profession, this is my bread and butter … aur uska jo mazaak udayega I won’t promote or help their film.

If I’m making a comeback as per what you are saying, I wanted to come back and make everyone laugh.

The tagline of the film says “Everyone knows about it”. What does ‘it’ mean?

Get me the Gita or The Bible and I swear on it that jo kahungi sach kahungi uske alava kuch nahin kahungi. Iss film mein jitni sachchai hai yeh to ya director David bataa sakte hain ya producer Vashuji bataa sakte hain… because every actor has been given a chit saying, ‘Do not speak and do not tell’.

All the preconceived notions of how a wife and a husband should ‘be’ have been changed in this film. It is completely contemporary and I hope that people accept it. Do Knot Disturb is a very special film because I have worked with the cast and crew before and I share a comfort level with everyone. Do Knot Disturb is an ace at the script level because when David works on a comedy, you know he makes it work.

But in David Dhawan’s films, it is normally the heroes who do comedy...

I have never done a David Dhawan film where I haven’t done comedy, be it Biwi No. 1 or Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya.

What is the reasoning behind the spelling of Knot?

You should ask all the married individuals about the knot, hamari abhi tak baari aai nahin hai isliye hum iss baare mein kuch nahin bol sakte hain!

How was it working with fellow Miss Universe Lara Dutta in the film?

In Do Knot Disturb Lara and I don’t have a combination song like Dola re dola. We do have our own characters and our own story but yes, we are inter-connected; and yes she is a wonderful actress.

Why was your directorial dream Rani Lakshmibai shelved?

At times, you cannot fight something. You accept it. I have a lot of things happening right now and it is not time yet. But it will definitely happen … if not today then tomorrow.

Finally, what’s your reaction to A.R. Rahman winning the Oscar?

It is a very proud moment. It is fantastic for Indian cinema. I’m very proud of Rahman and Resul (Pookutty). I loved the film.
