The electrifying dance number Rajar raja from Dev’s film Khadaan has taken the Internet by storm. The song captures the vibrant spirit of Bengal, highlighting the strength, resilience, and joy of its people amidst the tough lives in the coalfields.

Khadaan, starring Dev and Jisshu Sengupta in lead roles, tells a powerful story of fearless souls who, with courage and intelligence, change their own destinies and alter the fate of a coalfield in Damodar Valley. The song Rajar raja mirrors this journey, offering a bright and celebratory contrast to the film’s darker setting. Reflecting on the film and the song’s release, director Soojit Dutta said: “The incredible audience response is exactly what I’d hoped for. Travelling through Bengal’s towns and villages, I see how much people love Bengali cinema; it’s an event of celebration for them. My vision was to revive an era we left behind but to do so with a modern touch. It was challenging to make it contemporary yet nostalgic. Savvy composed this song beautifully, and Devda told me early on: ‘This song will give your story the power it needs.’ He has a great sense of music that really helped me.”

Rajar raja offers a glimpse into the inspiring and intense journey that Khadaan, slated to release on December 20, promises.

“The journey of shooting this song was very tough. We had to ensure the visuals aligned perfectly with the music while staying true to Dev’s avatar. We didn’t want to compromise on any department, whether it was art or costume. Each and every single department was aligned. We tried hard to make everything work in harmony. From the moment Khadaan was announced we could feel the audience’s excitement. While shooting the song, the conditions were so hot and harsh that some of the backup dancers fainted due to the extreme heat, and I even got scared. However, I did not see a single expression of tiredness on Devda’s face and body. He was so energetic throughout the shoot and everybody was inspired by his energy. He is the best dancer. Rajar raja was the first song we confirmed, but the last one to be finalised,” said Dutta. Khadaan is produced by Surinder Films and Dev Entertainment Ventures.
