BENGALI TO HINDI
Bou Katha Kou
BENGALI: Bou Katha Kou (STAR Jalsha)
HINDI: Gustakh Dil (Life OK)
Bou Katha Kou — the story of village girl Mouri (Manali Dey) trapped in a loveless marriage with Nikhil (Riju Biswas) — was a TRP topper. Fans of that show can now follow Gustakh Dil, which has adapted the same marriage-of-convenience template. Gustakh Dil — starring Sana Amin Shaikh as Laajo and Vibhav Roy as Nikhil — is produced by Ravi Ojha Productions, the team behind the Bengali original.
BENGALI: Maa (STAR Jalsha)
HINDI: Meri Maa (Life OK)
Young Jhilik’s search for her mother had many of us hooked to STAR Jalsha’s Maa. The Hindi version on Life OK had Calcutta girl Sayantani Ghosh playing the mother. While Maa was a consistent draw, the response to the Hindi version was lukewarm.
Dance Bangla Dance
BENGALI: Dance Bangla Dance (Zee Bangla)
HINDI: Dance India Dance (Zee TV)
Dance India Dance
Yes, Dance Bangla Dance came first! The Bangla dance reality show, judged by disco king Mithun Chakraborty, aired in 2007 while the Hindi show came up two years later to cash in on the success story. Mithun is the common factor in the two versions, both of which are popular tune-ins. Kya baat, kya baat, kya baat!
Ogo Bodhu Sundari
BENGALI: Ogo Bodhu Sundari (STAR Jalsha)
HINDI: Sasural Genda Phool (STAR Plus)
Sasural Genda Phool
The popular Bengali soap about a spoilt rich girl (Ritabhari Chakraborty) who gets married into a middle-class joint family had a lot of takers. The show was successfully adapted into Hindi as Sasural Genda Phool starring popular faces Ragini Khanna and Jay Soni. It aired for over two years.
Sansaar Sukher Hoy Romonir Gune
BENGALI: Sansaar Sukher Hoy Romonir Gune (STAR Jalsha)
HINDI: Alaxmi Ka Super Parivaar (Life OK)
Alaxmi Ka Super Parivaar
It’s the tale of Lakshmi (played by Bijoy Laxmi Chatterjee) who loses her parents at a young age and is forced to marry the grandson of the village zamindar. The Hindi adaptation had the same plotline, but failed to hook viewers.
HINDI TO BENGALI
Diya Aur Baati Hum
HINDI: Diya Aur Baati Hum (STAR Plus)
BENGALI: Tomay Amay Mile (STAR Jalsha)
Tomay Amay Mile
The popular show on STAR Plus with Deepika Singh and Anas Rashid in the lead has made its way to the Bengali small screen. The saga of Sandhya, a young girl aspiring to become an IPS officer, and her less educated but supportive husband Suraj has touched a chord. The Bengali version, that went on air in March starring Bou Katha Kou’s Riju as Nishith and Roosha Chatterjee as Ushoshi, has become a talking point too.
HINDI: CID (Sony)
BENGALI: CID Kolkata Bureau (Sony Aath)
CID Kolkata Bureau
The crime fiction show that’s been airing on Sony for a record 15 years set up its Calcutta bureau last year with CID Kolkata Bureau. ACP Birsingha, Ronojoy and Tej slip into ACP Pradyuman, Daya and Abhijit’s shoes for the Bengali version. But it’s not a patch on the original, in terms of TRPs at least.
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa
HINDI: Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Colors)
BENGALI: Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Bangla (ETV Bangla)
Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Bangla
The celebrity dance show on Colors that has just completed six seasons and boasts Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar and Remo D’Souza as judges, made its way into the Bengali space this year. Tolly actress Rimjhim Mitra danced home with the trophy in the debut season.
HINDI: Bigg Boss (Colors)
BENGALI: Bigg Boss Bangla (ETV Bangla)
Bigg Boss Bangla
A popular format across the globe and in any language. So, it was just a matter of time before Bigg Boss, the reality TV format that confines a group of contestants in a house for three months, crossed the Bengali boundary line. While Season 7 of Bigg Boss is currently airing on Colors, the first season of Bigg Boss Bangla crowned singer Aneek Dhar as winner last month.
