2002:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s first year at the glamorous French Riviera — the venue for the Cannes Film Festival — was a fashion disaster. Her Neeta Lulla wardrobe looked like it had lost its way while going to a wedding. The next year as a jury member was no better; the fusion Indian princess look she was going for was more costume-y than chic.
2004:
She decided to switch things up a bit, ditching her desi girl looks for a more modern vibe. Result: An awkward cut-away dress by Neeta Lulla. #fail
2005:
Aah! A style turnover, finally. Ash discovered the world of international red-carpet masters and her fashion game changed forever. The chic Giorgio Armani printed dress is one of her most memorable appearances till date.
2010:
Aishwarya started appearing on the red carpet with husband Abhishek Bachchan from 2007. She stuck to the formula of generic shimmery gowns + plunging neckline + diamonds + silver eyeshadow. Until this look in 2010. Wow!
2011:
A sculpted Armani Prive peplum gown was Ash’s pick for 2011, giving us the first glimpse of the former Miss World putting on a fair bit of weight #BeingHuman
2012:
This was her most awaited red carpet appearance, post-Aaradhya. She showed off her new figure in Elie Saab. Her weight gain (or lack of weight loss) became a matter of national concern.
2014:
After an average 2013, Aishwarya took our breath away in 2014. She posed, preened and pouted her statement blood-red mouth, wearing that fitted Roberto Cavalli gown. #LikeABoss
2015:
In her 14th year at Cannes, Aishwarya showed why she — and only she — is red carpet royalty. Kick-starting the season in a Sabyasachi printed jumpsuit, she had one amazing outing after another. The Ralph & Russo architectural piece and the shimmering Elie Saab gown will go down as her best till date. #TillNextYear
Katrina Kaif, L’Oreal girl since 2014, made her red carpet debut this year in an Oscar de la Renta gown from the fall 2015 collection (picture top). Her red hair was distracting but she made an impact nevertheless with this simple-yet-sexy look. She followed it up with what could easily be her best look ever. The gorgeous Elie Saab gown (picture below) showcasing her curves, sleek hair and the ruby mouth — she owned the look head-to-toe.
